On Tuesday, January 22, the Bloomington Public Library Children’s Department will kick off a new, continual program ― 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This national program implements a simple concept with priceless rewards as parents and caregivers are encouraged to read 1,000 books to their children before each child starts kindergarten. In doing so, the child sets off on the right path toward establishing strong early literacy skills.
The kickoff celebration will include information about the program and how to get started as well as storytelling from Mike Lockett at 6 p.m. in the Children’s Department. If a family is unable to attend the kick off celebration, that’s not a problem. Anyone can visit the Children’s Desk after January 22 to receive information about the program and the materials needed to get started.
Children who complete the program at Bloomington Library will receive bragging rights and a book bag which touts, “I read 1000 books before kindergarten with Bloomington Public Library.”
